It was a Friday evening and a busy closing day at work (WFH).
I was holding a cup of coffee when my child unintentionally bumped into me and spilled my coffee everywhere. I lost my temper and yelled at her! I ended up spoiling the Friday evening!
Why did I spill the coffee? "Well because someone bumped into me, of course!" I realised this was wrong and was pondering over the incident ! I spilled the coffee because there was coffee in my cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, I would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. In a cool State of mind if the same incident had happened, I normally would have said careful daughter and moved on.
My take away on this incidence is when the situation around shakes us (which WILL happen), whatever is inside us will come out. It's easy to fake it until you get rattled.
So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?" When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility?
Or anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions?
Choice is ours, to fill our cups with inner peace or with bitterness.
