My handbag wasn't there when I came back.
A passenger called out,"Madam, are you looking for your bag? We've put it to the side. The baby wanted to sit in the window seat. "
I was stunned for a moment.
My handbag had important documents and personal luggage. I regretted losing the window seat, but someone moved my bag without my permission, I found it more disliked. I got disappointed and a little angry.
I gave no reaction though.
I asked for aisle seat peacefully and went and sat there. There was a light disappointment in the mind.
Been awhile since the plane flew and that little boy fell asleep.
He slept peacefully during the whole flight.
He woke up about fifteen minutes before landing. His mother lovingly rolled her hand into her hair and smiled.
Then she looked at me and said,
You know, he loved the window seat so much he moved your bag. But the whole flight he saw nothing outside. He just kept sleeping.
I spoke with a smile,
"Maybe he is too tired. "
The smile on moms face slowed down a little.
She said slowly, "he is not feeling well. "
I asked, "What has happened?" "
After a moment of silence she replied, Blood cancer. "
My throat is full of a sink.
The little disappointment I've been carrying in my mind for hours, how desperate it felt in the family.
I slowly put my hand on his shoulder.
She spoke forward,
"Now that's a lot better. Today we are finally returning back to our home after ten months of treatment at ABC Hospital. There was a time when we thought we might not even take her back home. But by the grace of God and the labour of doctors he is with us today. "
I looked at that baby.
The kid who unknowingly sat on my window seat, has been fighting for his life, not the view outside the plane window for the past several months.
The plane has landed.
My heart was heavy and grateful.
And then came the most beautiful lesson of this event.
His mother hesitantly asked before leaving the plane,
"I am sorry... Are you XYZ actress ? "
I spoke with a smile,
"Yes. "
Her face just glowed up with joy.
She started talking about my work, my songs etc etc.
For a few minutes she wasn't a worried mother drowned in hospital circles, reports and drugs.
She was just one happy woman.
A woman, who was laughing forgetting the burden of her sorrow for a while.
Then I asked,
Can I take a photo with you and your son?. "
Her smile just got wider.
"Absolutely. One in your phone and one in our phone. "
I understood a beautiful thing while taking a photo.
A few hours ago I thought I had left my window seat for a baby.
But maybe God planned something more beautiful.
Maybe that kid got the window seat.
Maybe his mother enjoyed a few moments.
And maybe I understood the true meaning of life.
Not insisting on being true.
Not stubbornness to win every argument.
Don't sit holding on to every little disappointment.
But first of all - to maintain humanity.
It doesn't cost to be kind.
It only takes a moment to show sympathy.
But for someone, who is carrying the load of invisible grief, that little loving treat of yours can become a lifetime of beautiful memory.
Today that kid took my window seat.. But unknowingly he gave me a clearer window to see life. ❤️
